Virtual Worlds Timeline

This came up on my Google dashboard this morning, an interactive timeline of virtual worlds. Entries date back to the panoramic painting in 1787 and include notable books and inventions that paved the way for virtual worlds and online environments as we know them today.  It looks like entries are only up to date through 2008, so it won’t have some notable closures, but it’s a great way to visualize the rapid expansion after 2000.  Very cool.
